How long does a tile installation last?
Thanks for tuning in,
You are here cause you want to know how long will a tile installation last. The short answer is 50 years. The long answer below.
Now many thing can make or break a tile installation.
These are a few examples of what can make the install last.
Substrate need to be structurally sound
Proper mortar coverage
Quality of tile
Proper expansion and contraction joints
What can break the install.
1. Bad wavy substrates
2. Not structurally sound substrates
3. Lack of mortar coverage
4. Lack of expansion and contraction joints
The glazed on lower end tile can wear off, but the tile will still be intact. In most cases the substrate below/behind the tile is what is gonna fail before the tile.
Tile is a premium floor covering. You pay a premium up front but save in the long end. Why do you think that every commercial building ( hotels, restaurants ) have tile. Because its meant to last and can handle heavy traffic. Look at your car dealerships. They have tile floors in the showroom they drive the cars on.
